Cupping Therapy

What is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage.

What does cupping therapy do?

Suction from cupping draws fluid into the treated area. This suction force expands and breaks open tiny blood vessels (capillaries) under your skin. Your body replenishes the cupped areas with healthier blood flow and stimulates proper and normal healing at a cellular level. Because of this effect, some people think that cupping releases toxins.

A couple years ago I herniated a disc in my lower back and could hardly walk when I first came to Alberta Spine and Sport. The chiropractors here had me back on my feet and feeling great in a few short months. Now I stick to a maintenance program and can carry on with my life! They’ve done wonders helping my son with foot pain too. All the staff here are so kind and professional, we’re lucky to have this practice in Okotoks!

I have been going to Shaun at Alberta Spine and Sport off and on for 5 years for Physiotherapy due to a couple of injuries I have and post surgery treatment. He has been excellent with his techniques of therapy and bedside manner. It is always a pleasure to see and speak with him and all the staff I have met. He has helped me a fair amount with my limited range of motion and listens to what you are experiencing and isn’t afraid to change techniques to find the right solution.
